May 11, 2008 Story Salt presents The Stone Book, a Storytelling Concert with renowned Ottawa Storyteller, Jan Andrews
bring your Mum for Mothers' Day! bring your family (ages 10+) & your friends to Bowen Court on Bowen Island, B.C.
2:30pm - 3:30pm (Doors open at 2pm) / Tickets at Door: Adults $10 - $15 / Seniors & Students $8
The Stone Book is the first of four stories from Alan Garner's classic, The Stone Book Quartet.
Set in rural England in the 18th C., the story takes the listener on a journey to the top of a newly erected church steeple and then into a cave below the earth. We travel with Mary, a young girl on the brink of adult life. She comes to the cave in rite of passage as her ancestors have done for centuries. The experience "puts a quitness on her."
Come delight in the sense of times long gone, of a world where craftmanship had nothing to do with schooling and everything to do with person to person handing on of skills. Be touched by the strength and dignity of the characters; the power of the language used to conjure the tale.
Jan Andrews has been a Storyteller for more than 20 years. Few stories have meant as much to her. She tells with the author's permission and is honoured to do so.
